Chris has just finished writing a new history of Worthing, which is due to be published in time for Christmas. The book, lavishly illustrated, including photographs from the famous Walter Gardiner Collection, will include chapters on areas of the town's history only scantlily touched on in previous studies. The scandal surrounding the 1893 typhoid epidemic will be explored, as will the Worthing story since 1945 (chris' last book finished in 1935).

An illustrated talk by Chris Hare, in which he will highlight the new and exciting areas of Worthing’s history revealed in his new book, Worthing: A History – Riot and Respectability in a Seaside Town. Chris will be showing for the first time previously unpublished photographs of Victorian and Edwardian Worthing. This event is free and will end at 7.30 p.m. This will be the public’s first opportunity buy copies of his new book and Chris will be available at the library from 6 p.m. Monday 24 November, 8 p.m. Sidney Walter Centre, Sussex Road. Chris Hare will talk to the Worthing History Research Group about his new book, Worthing: A History – Riot and Respectability in a Seaside Town, with particular reference to how he chose the material to include in the book and the sources he drew on for his information. This talk is free and signed copies of the new book will be available to purchase. Chris will be in the bar of the Sidney Walter Centre from 7.30 p.m. onwards to sign copies of the book and also after his presentation. It is not yet possible to pay for a copy of the book, but you can reserve a signed copy by emailling your details to Chris | ||||
